8/7/17

Well, we picked Elder Howell up. He is from mcCamon Idaho. He is really a funny guy He is also only like 6 months older than ian so thats weird!   We had a good week and taught a ton of people- it was great.  I got the package thank you so much it was great.

My ponderize scripture is from the Doctrine and Covenants section 9 verse 11  Behold, it was expedient when you commenced; but you feared, and the time is past, and it is not expedient now;

to put it into context Oliver cowdrey wanted to try translating and the lord granted him the chance but apparently he didn't do it and the time for the chance was over and he was only permitted to continue as scribe to Joseph smith.  verse 11 makes me think about the spiritual promptings that we receive but dont act on we may never get that chance or prompting again we will get others but never quite the same. Dont put off a prompting is what i was prompted while i read this

. love elder Roskelley
ps we are going on a hike after this hopefully its amazing we are going with some non members so thats helpful.

it has been hot but it has also rained a ton here people are really surprised with all the rain and complain about the humidity but i love it! i dont even have to use lip balm anymore and my elbows arnt sand paper. also i would like it on cd also the supreza boxes are amazing not sure if i told you that or not. i do need some more razor blades but i can also get my own if you would like. so transfers were this last Saturday and................... elder bjork and i are staying in Blanding and ...... we are trio training so it will be us two and a brand new missionary fresh out kinda weird i feel like i was just there but now its my last transfers its honestly a little depressing but it impossible for me to be depressed as a missionary so i am fine. my ponderize scripture is Doctrine and covenants 128 verse  22 "Brethren, shall we not go on in so great cause? Go forward and not backward. Couragebrethren; and on, on to the victory! Let your hearts rejoice, and be exceedingly glad...."
dont go backwards   go forwards have courage and act in faith. those are the thoughts i had as i read this verse. i also think its kinda funny how he seems to call out the " brethren"  haha

sorry thats all this week  i didnt have time to email today we are leaving for farmington in 20 minutes to go to a meeting then pick up the new missionary in the morning !!! so excited

7/24/17

Well great week we had zone conference and interviews which were both amazing. some sister missionaries gave a training that changed the way i work with people so thats great  i am super thankful for that. the Zone conference was on teaching Repentance and learning teaching skills.   so because of that something that has been on my mind a lot lately with all the training about teaching better, to bear frequent, honest, humble testimony. so my ponderize scripture is 2 nephi chapter 31 verse 21
And now, behold, my beloved brethren, this is the way; and there is none other way nor name given under heaven whereby man can be saved in the kingdom of God. And now, behold, this is the doctrine of Christ, and the only and true doctrine of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, which is one God, without end. Amen.
i know this is true. he is the only way. and yes seeing uncle epp and lana and the cousins was super weird, but good i sure miss all the family. well have a great week

wow everyone is getting so tall!!!! i am going to be a midget when i get back i really like jadens shirt  ians is interesting hahahaha that is a deep hole. as for the cars i dont know. i ll just ride a scooter or a dirt bike around...... this week has been good lots of good things happening in the zone still got some room to grow that's for sure. we taught some really amazing people this last week and hope to teach them more and more and more until they are baptized then keep teaching them ha. had some great talks and lessons in the wards and branch we went to this week we herd two farewells and will probably here one a week for the rest of the summer its weird to listen becuase i remember mine so well its sad to watch them stand up there and cry. its also funny to  but mostly sad. but i am glad they are going and i know the people they meet will be too. I read a talk this week titled " put the savior first" by Robert C Gay it is  a super duper good talk  ( https://www.lds.org/ensign/2017/07/put-the-savior-first?lang=eng  ) My ponderize scripture is Doctrine and covenants 19:18-19
18 Which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spirit—and would that I might not drink the bitter cup, and shrink—

19 Nevertheless, glory be to the Father, and I partook and finished my preparations unto the children of men

That is really powerful to think of how much he went through for us yet he finished it and gave the glory to the father. In the YSA branch the topic was on obedience and the speakers did an amazing job. It just makes me think when i have done or do something really great and spectacular i want something from it i expect something especially praise but i should be giving it to the father. Also to give the glory to the father i have to be doing things he is proud of other wise that is just bad

Well this week was great lots of fun things we could see the firework show from our house so that was great we heard the last firework was a classified bomb but legal. it was definitely bigger than the rest.  the bluff elders drove up to Monticello to golf and we hitched a ride with our bikes and they dropped us up at the top of devils canyon. elder bjork got a speedometer thing at shopco and it is bomb we went as total of 12.5 miles and a top speed of 37 miles per hour. it was a blast biking is so fun we went down hill a ton. we only had to peddle up like 2 hills

MY ponderize scripture is Doctrine and Covenants 19:24 it says
24 I am Jesus Christ; I came by the will of the Father, and I do his will.
i love this scripture i found it during comp study it was next to a scripture we were using in a role play and i just couldn't help but be inspired. Because the Father sent him he was going to do the will of he father and nothing was going to alter that. on the 4th we received a lot of pressure to be a part of the festive entertainment and we would not do it it was so hard. what usually happens is the missionaries would ride a bike in the parade it was a 6 person bike in the past they never got permission to do that and this year we weren't sure about it so we called our mission president and he said that we are here to teach and testify of the gospel not be an entertainment act. lots of people were really wanted us to do it and we got asked like 100 times about it. we had a good week though found some people to teach so that was great.

this week was great. the little town of blanding becomes a city for the 4th of july it crazy! today i cooked a bacon explosion for the district or at least the elders in the district. it was delicious. and then we cooked ribs and i have eaten almost an entire tub of chocolate peanut butter tillmook ice cream...... YUMMMMM.... it has been hot this week and we also had two baptisms this saturday one for jensen and one for Autumn it was great.
my ponderize scripture this week is Doctrine and Covenants 66: 7-10
7 "Go unto the eastern lands, bear testimony in every place, unto every people and in their synagogues, reasoning with the people.

8 Let my servant Samuel H. Smith go with you, and forsake him not, and give him thine instructions; and he that is faithful shall be made strong in every place; and I, the Lord, will go with you.

9 Lay your hands upon the sick, and they shall recover. Return not till I, the Lord, shall send you. Be patient in affliction. Ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

10 Seek not to be cumbered. Forsake all unrighteousness. ..."
i took this to mean that we should only work the east side of blanding... i am just kidding, i really like how inspiring it is it just makes me want to go and do and be a part of miracles. to testify to every single person i meet. and to be better

Well this week as been crazy! we get to cover 7 wards and one branch which i think i already said but its just chaos  a little bit but we got the first week under our belts and i dont get lost as much when we are trying to go to peoples houses. hahhah actually it has been really neat we are driving and we know were we need to go but cant find it and then we just show up god is really guiding us we always just pull over to see what street we are on and then we look at the house and its the one we needed to get to. pretty neat. it is hot here. way hot. but i use lots of sunscreen so no problem. Elder bjorkand i have had a ton of fun. too.  My ponderize scripture is 1nephi 14 verse 1 it is soo good.
1 And it shall come to pass, that if the Gentiles shall hearken unto the Lamb of God in that day that he shall manifest himself unto them in word, and also in power, in very deed, unto the taking away of their stumbling blocks.

it is about how the Gentiles will come under the same covenant that the children of Israel are under. and how he will make them strong and removing their stumbling blocks. its neat because it just makes me think about the coming forth of the book of mormon and really how many prophecy the Restoration as a whole fulfills.  i know that the restoration came forth through the word and power of god. love you all

Well this week has been stressful and sad we found out that Elder Johnston is leaving he will be transferd to Bayfield Colorado he will getting a brand new trainee fresh from home. i will be staying here in blanding but i will now cover all 7 ward and 1 branch in blanding so yeah thats crazy my new and also old companion will be elder Bjork he was my second companion i trained him ha it should be fun.  It has been very hot here in the 90s even so i am using sunscreen a lot. my ponderize scripture is  James 4:16-17
16 But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.
17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
How true is that often times we find our self's rejoicing in our accomplishments we have done on our own. when in reality if it is something praise worthy at all the honor belongs to our father in heaven. When we dont do the good we know we should it is a sin. sin is not just doing wrong it is also a lack of living up to the knowledge that we have. i love my mission and i am changed because of it.

i have had so much fun with elder johnston and we have been blessed a ton. i am so glad i could be his companion even if it was the shortest companionship i have had.

Well this week was crazy we had zone conference exchanges, more exchanges and a baptism plus we are trying to get to know the 5 wards still. it has been a blast i love it and wouldn't have it any other way. hahhah zone conference was incredible attached is the training that our Assistants to the President gave Elder Merrill and Elder Stewart. it changed the way i do a lot of things and on exchanges later that day in farmington we visited with some of the old people in the ward who have health problems and they were all past stake presidents so i learned a ton from them as well, it was just fantastic.  My ponderize scripture this week is Alma 31:34-35
34 O Lord, wilt thou grant unto us that we may have success in bringing them again unto thee in Christ.
35 Behold, O Lord, their souls are precious, and many of them are our brethren; therefore, give unto us, O Lord, power and wisdom that we may bring these, our brethren, again unto thee.
i feel like as we are striving to double our numbers of those we find, teach, and baptize i find my self thinking even praying this same thing that Alma did.

yes it has been fantastic with elder Johnston and we are seeing wonderful things its so amazing he is form mill creek salt lake. also this week the sisters had to go to farmington for the rest of the transfer to help out with stuff there so we are taking over there area so now we cover 2nd ward 3rd ward 5th ward 7th ward and the blue mountain YSA branch so yeah the work exploded we have 5 people that are to be baptized in the coming month. so that is super exciting. it is so hot here all ready the tourists are starting to pop up its funny to see them i felt bad we saw some get pulled over today. we had smores a couple nights ago.   My ponderise scripture is 2 Thessalonians 2:13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:
this scripture is important barbecue it reminds or teaches that the spirit sanctify s us meaning it helps us do right and prompts us to fix our wrongs and to rely on the savior.

UWell this week was great we were blessed with 2 new investigators which in blanding might seem rare but the reality is that because everyone knows about the church if they start investigating that means they are genuine and these people are. Elder johnston and i road bikes on Saturday super far (out of miles) as we were some tourists with a van picked us and our bikes up and took us about 6 miles to the house we were going to. the tourists are members and they visit the mountain here every year and mine.... so that really neat they are very good people he actually said, as we thanked him. " i am not doing it for you i am doing it for the man you work for." that really struck me do we serve for worldly glory or out of our love for the lord? this week i was asked to speak in the 3rd ward and the 7th ward so that was stressful it was 2 different topics too. i really enjoyed it though. also our mission president gave us a talk to read called you the leaders of 1988"  it was soooooo gooood i learned a ton. Today we went to the natural bridges just outside of blanding they were incredible.      My ponderize scripture is moroni chapter 1 verses 2 and 3
2 For behold, their wars are exceedingly fierce among themselves; and because of their hatred they put to death every Nephite that will not deny the Christ.

3 And I, Moroni, will not deny the Christ; wherefore, I wander whithersoever I can for the safety of mine own life.
i gave a talk this sunday about making a stand ( where do i make my stand 2004 )  and this verse impressed me. moroni is a man of integrity and honor.

more pics the one with all the missionaries is all of my companions i have had on my mission they were all at MLC . three of the elders in the picture have not been my comp i just went on lots of exchanges.

well this week was great lots of miracles one of them was This Sunday there was a surprise baptism.... his name is Jarron. He left the church a long time ago and he has sort of been working on getting baptized again and was about 70% in but several weeks ago he found out he has terminal cancer and he only had 8 months left. so he began making the changes necessary to be re baptized. however this last week on Wednesday he had a massive stroke that rendered the left side of his body useless. he was only given just a week to live so they made arrangements and things of that sort for someone who is dying. his family all came into town to say there goodbyes. then jarron decided although he can barely speak, that he still needed to be baptized so he was this Sunday at 5 pm 4 men (2 of which were doctors) carried him into the font and he was baptized. my ponderize scripture is

Alma 21:16-17          16  And they went forth whithersoever they were led by the Spirit of the Lord, preaching the word of God in every synagogue of the Amalekites, or in every assembly of the Lamanites where they could be admitted.

17 And it came to pass that the Lord began to bless them, insomuch that they brought many to the knowledge of the truth; yea, they did convince many of their sins, and of the traditions of their fathers, which were not correct.
i love the sentence " And it came to pass that the lord began to bless them,..." i know that if we do what we can and we do what the lord would have us do that he will bless us. just like he blessed jarron   also

well this week was great! it was a struggle because elder Johnston has not been in the area more then 6 weeks and we are covering wards that they didn't before so we are both learning together but it has been a blast we are really trying to find. if you know anyone in blanding utah let us know we will go find them and teach them the gospel. the weather was cold the first day or two but it has been nice and warm with a very strong breeze also found out that the family we Skype from yesterdays is my uncles uncles 2nd cousin.... so thats cool. we did some service for a non member we were referred to and she is already starting to soften towards lessons.  moroni 7:41 And what is it that ye shall hope for? Behold I say unto you that ye shall have hope through the atonement of Christ and the power of his resurrection, to be raised unto life eternal, and this because of your faith in him according to the promise.
Elder johnston shared this with someone and i really liked it. without the atonement of Jesus Christ there would be NO HOPE. but he did suffer for us and he lives. so that we need not suffer if we come unto him and we will live again. love elder roskelley

WHAT!!!! so i am getting transferred from beautiful Durango and elder Lewis is getting elder Williams he is coming from Kirtland he is a great missionary. i am going to Blanding Utah hahhhah i am in Utah ha i think its funny my companion is elder Johnston the one that was in my MTC group that i really liked i am so excited! we are going to have a lot of fun. and we are going to do soo much missionary work! i will miss durango lots it is so pretty i will miss the members and those we taught and of course i will miss my companion elder Lewis. this week in durango we started finding again which is a miracle because we had a meeting in farmington Tuesday, a zone conference in cortez Wednesday, and some stuff with exchanges too. it was crazy but the lord sure blessed us. i dont have my new address yet i will get it out next week. thank you all so much.
my ponderize scripture this week is Moses chapter 1:12-22 i love this story especially how Moses says i am a son of god! i think that, that is so powerful we must always remember that. if we do then we should also remember that Satan has no power over us.

12And it came to pass that when Moses had said these words, behold, Satan came tempting him, saying: Moses, son of man, worship me.

13 And it came to pass that Moses looked upon Satan and said: Who art thou? For behold, I am a son of God, in the similitude of his Only Begotten; and where is thy glory, that I should worship thee?

14 For behold, I could not look upon God, except his glory should come upon me, and I were transfigured before him. But I can look upon thee in the natural man. Is it not so, surely?

15 Blessed be the name of my God, for his Spirit hath not altogether withdrawn from me, or else where is thy glory, for it is darkness unto me? And I can judge between thee and God; for God said unto me: Worship God, for him only shalt thou serve.

16 Get thee hence, Satan; deceive me not; for God said unto me: Thou art after the similitude of mine Only Begotten.

17 And he also gave me commandments when he called unto me out of the burning bush, saying: Call upon God in the name of mine Only Begotten, and worship me.

18 And again Moses said: I will not cease to call upon God, I have other things to inquire of him: for his glory has been upon me, wherefore I can judge between him and thee. Depart hence, Satan.

19 And now, when Moses had said these words, Satan cried with a loud voice, and ranted upon the earth, and commanded, saying: I am the Only Begotten, worship me.

20 And it came to pass that Moses began to fear exceedingly; and as he began to fear, he saw the bitterness of hell. Nevertheless, calling upon God, he received strength, and he commanded, saying: Depart from me, Satan, for this one God only will I worship, which is the God of glory.

21 And now Satan began to tremble, and the earth shook; and Moses received strength, and called upon God, saying: In the name of the Only Begotten, depart hence, Satan.

22 And it came to pass that Satan cried with a loud voice, with weeping, and wailing, and gnashing of teeth; and he departed hence, even from the presence of Moses, that he beheld him not.

my ponderize scripture is 3 nephi 11:1-7 i think its interesting that the people where talking about Christ ( a very good thing to do) yet they still didn't understand the voice of god. i think that we do that some times i know i have i say good things and i even do good things most the time but i still don't always here god. it is important to listen to spiritual promptings.  that is something i am focusing on right now i need to get better at it.

1 And now it came to pass that there were a great multitude gathered together, of the people of Nephi, round about the temple which was in the land Bountiful; and they were marveling and wondering one with another, and were showing one to another the great and marvelous change which had taken place.
2   And they were also conversing about this Jesus Christ, of whom the sign had been given concerning his death.
3    And it came to pass that while they were thus conversing one with another, they heard a voice as if it came out of heaven; and they cast their eyes round about, for they understood not the voice which they heard; and it was not a harsh voice, neither was it a loud voice; nevertheless, and notwithstanding it being a small voice it did pierce them that did hear to the center, insomuch that there was no part of their frame that it did not cause to quake; yea, it did pierce them to the very soul, and did cause their hearts to burn.
4    And it came to pass that again they heard the voice, and they understood it not.
5    And again the third time they did hear the voice, and did open their ears to hear it; and their eyes were towards the sound thereof; and they did look steadfastly towards heaven, from whence the sound came.

Okay,  well this week was warmer so thats nice ha.   We taught a ton of people it was great teaching is more fun than tracting. usually.....hahahah j i kinda like tracting sometimes though. anyways I dont know if I mentioned this yet but our ward mission leader is now the branch president of the Silverton branch.  So yeah, we don't have a ward mission leader but brother black is stepping in for now and he is doing a great job but we will miss brother gurr  he was fantastic too.
Last week we went on an epic bike ride up in the mountains . I figured out how to kinda drift / fish tail on the mountiain bike so I did a lot fo that by the time we got back to our house I realized my back tire was falling off ha! The biking trip was about 10-12 mile round trip it took us 1.5 hours to get up and 20 min to get down so it was brutal here are some pics.

This week my ponderize scripture is Doctrine and Covenants 84:43-44
43 And I now give unto you a commandment to beware concerning yourselves, to give diligent heed to the words of eternal life.

44 For you shall live by every word that proceedeth forth from the mouth of God.

T have been thinking lately and these verses reminded me of it that we  are often our own worst enemy. so we must beware the things we do and have genuine concern for our selfs particularly spiritually in the talk from Elder sabin he talks of our covenants and how we need to  " .......be “all in” ( rather )"than partially in. "

I am trying to be all in and understand more of what i am all in for.

April 17th

Easter was great! It was one of my favorite sacrament meetings in this ward yet.   It was so powerful. A lady talked about how several years ago she had accidentally ran over and killed her little girl. Her little girl would have been 8 last week. It was so amazing to hear her tell her story how the Savior carried the load of that tragedy in her life .  I could not imagine that guilt and sorrow that she had but she is at peace now and has been able to move on in her life.   She has 2 girls and her husband is still with her. Pretty amazing story it was inspiring and very hope filling.

On another note we have noticed that we are finding better again and the members are helping too. Example
a lady was praying for a miracle and then a lady in our ward just saw her out the window and invited her to come to church with her and she did!

my ponderize scripture is Alma 39:9-10
9 Now my son, I would that ye should repent and forsake your sins, and go no more after the lusts of your eyes, but cross yourself in all these things; for except ye do this ye can in nowise inherit the kingdom of God. Oh, remember, and take it upon you, and cross yourself in these things.

10 And I command you to take it upon you to counsel with your elder brothers in your undertakings; for behold, thou art in thy youth, and ye stand in need to be nourished by your brothers. And give heed to their counsel.

I love this --take counsel from your older brothers because Jesus Christ is our big brother and He gave the best council. Also it says to cross yourself when you are about to do something you shouldn't just remember why you shouldn't do it. Cross yourself until you dont want to do it any more.

Well these last couple weeks we have had two missionary go to the hospital one is home recovering in Utah and the other is still undecided what is wrong so please pray for them they need it.

-------------------------------------------------HAPPY EASTER IN 6 DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Well this week was great People just started popping up at church that we never met before we had three people walk 5 miles to get to church! Pretty neat we also had bro lambert translate for the Cruz family.   It was super awesome.   We have a baptism this weekend the kid is 8 but we have been teaching his family (mom big bro and him) for 6 months so we are happy he is getting baptized too.   His big bro did about a month ago his is 11 and his mom was a member but hadn't gone to church in a while like years so they are doing great Julian the 8 year old will be getting baptized with 2 other family in the ward, the Zufelts and the Ramos family.   So it is going to be a very Hispanic baptism we are so excited for them all.
Something funny and kinda crazy is that some teaching records from 2 years ago we saw a lady name Maria and so we visited her and she is still there so we set up a time to go back and teach her i am excited to see what happens there. this week I was asked to give a training on charity not because I am good at it but because I need to learn to have it.hahah so
I was studying that and a talk from General conference really stuck out to me it was the talk by S. Mark Palmer here is the link https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2017/04/then-jesus-beholding-him-loved-him?lang=eng at about the 5 min mark he talks of three things or ways to have charity
1. pray for it! with all energy of heart (moroni 7:48)  2. pray to see others as the lord sees them. 3. when you greet or meet someone look them in the eyes not to long that's weird but as you do do so with a prayer in heart to feel the love God has for them. I testify that this works it really does you will feel it if you are sincere I promise.

so naturarly my ponderize scripture is 1 Corinthians chapter 13 verses 1-3 1 YOU MUST HAVE CHARITY
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as‍ sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor,‍ and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

and yes mom I got the Easter package and I am doing the count down being in Durango ( pot is legal and everyone loves it) when I saw the bag of herbs that reference that scripture I was freaked out for a second but then we realized what it really was so we calmed down. ps the salmon made it to Durango and into my mouth

Also because of my companions exceptional musical abilities we have been drafted to the ward choir and I have no idea what I am doing but oh well .

April Posts

April 1st
Okay, I am doing really good actually!   I have everything I need & suit season is finely over- yippy!!!!!
I am looking forward to that package.
This general conference was absolutely amazing!  I loved it in fact my ponderize scripture is probably just listen to conference ha! I really liked Elder Ballards talk it helped me a ton and I know that it helped Elder Lewis a lot too. But If I had to choose a written article or document it would be "The Living Christ" that was talked about so much so we got some and are giving it out and reading it lots it is fantastic!
This last week was the Durango spring break..... in snowed hahahahh It is and was so cold.  Transfers was crazy I found out lots of changes happened to my past companions and areas and other wonderful missionary's I love so much .
Things are going very well here in the Durango zone. One miracle is the talk last session on Sunday that was about investigators. in that very session we had an investigator who began investigating the church because of a girl he wants to marry which is exactly what the talk was about and he was there.

I am so excited for him hahahahahh its SO AMAZING THE CHURCH IS TRUE I KNOW IT I KNOW IT!!!!!!! Anyways that really doesn't even represent a fraction of how much I loved general conference well love you all.

March 27

Hello this week was great a little cold but it was a blast.   So many people are just coming out of nowhere like the Lopez family.  They  just called us up and we taught them they are a part member family mom is the member and the husband and son aren't. They even came to church! And so did lots of other people for some reason.   Also,  70 percent of the people we teach speak Spanish.   Its kinda funny because I have like no idea what is being said 50% of the time.

My ponderize scripture is  form general conference a while back from April of 2010 in the priesthood session it titled
 "Act in All Diligence"
Henry B. Eyring
First Counselor in the First Presidency

Its so good I thought I would just paste the whole talk on here so your welcome.

Act in All Diligence

March 20

Okay so today we went with the Cortez district on a trip to Mesa Verde.   It was insanely awesome we just didn't have lots of time but I got lots of sweet pictures but..... I left the usb cord to send them.   So that will have to wait until next week. But I am sure you can look them up on the internet.
We had a great week lots of really neat things that worked out that are really miracles.

My ponderize scripture is mosiah 11 It's so good! and so sad, how hard the wicked king and his priests hearts are but I am excited to look for things that Abinindi did to get through to Alma and leave the impression that he did.  That way maybe we can do those same things and be able to get through to the people who otherwise would never really listen.

It has been so sunny here its very nice. Oh also transfers are this Saturday I am pretty sure that I am staying here but you never know.  Here are a couple picts form Elder Lewis's camera

that's elder lewis and the other one is me and a hippie van
I got the package today! ( sent it at the beginning of February)   The fish was rotten and I had to pay 13 bucks to get it. It's safe to say I really wanted to destroy the post office. I was and am very mad but the rest of the package was great.  The balloon was kinda random ha,  the ties are amazing!

So this week was good had a fun exchange with the elders in Red Mesa area they are great missionaries.  It was neat to see such willingness to learn and improve. they also have a beautiful area. Thursday was just a weird day for us nothing worked out and really weird people just kept saying random stuff to us it was ridiculous. I recorded the days events on the recorder thing so I'll send that later.

One really incredible thing that happened is a lesson we had with an investigator and the lesson was just really spiritual. She has the concern that we have a check list to get into heaven think maybe baptism. temple etc.   But the reality is that those things are here for us to grow closer to Christ and to understand him and our Father in Heaven more. as well as our own true identity and worth. It was just a great lesson. We also taught doctor Z again.  It went well,  some things were said my the member that aren't particularly true but I am confident that the spirit will not let him remember them in that way.

My ponderize scripture is
Doctrine and Covenants section 10:57-64
I love it because its Jesus Christ explaining why the book of Mormon is needed.

57 Behold, I am Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I came unto mine own, and mine own received me not.
58 I am the light which shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehendeth it not.
59 I am he who said—Other sheep have I which are not of this fold—unto my disciples, and many there were that understood me not.
 60 And I will show unto this people that I had other sheep, and that they were a branch of the house of Jacob;
 61 And I will bring to light their marvelous works, which they did in my name;
62 Yea, and I will also bring to light my gospel which was ministered unto them, and, behold, they shall not deny that which you have received, but they shall build it up, and shall bring to light the true points of my doctrine, yea, and the only doctrine which is in me.
63 And this I do that I may establish my gospel, that there may not be so much contention; yea, Satan doth stir up the hearts of the people to contention concerning the points of my doctrine; and in these things they do err, for they do wrest the scriptures and do not understand them.

I know that the book of Mormon is true and that it does not eliminate the miracle of the holy bible and it only brings more glory to our father and heaven and Jesus Christ. It is key in the building of my relation ship with each of them.

ps it is like 62 here the last couple of days its hot.

March 6

So this week was cold mostly just the wind was what got me I thought my ears were going to fall off. We got to go on exchanges this week I got to be with elder johnson he is from Alberta Canada and played some college basketball... he is very good lol.   It was fun to be with him for a day he is a great missionary. it just seems like I have been unfocused lately ( or at least more the usually ha ) and its been bothering me. But last night I was sitting there waiting for numbers and I suddenly thought I need to read Doctrine and covenants section 23
Even though I had no idea what it was, and it was just what I needed I am not sure why but it just helped me a lot and so did some of the footnotes for it. So i am great full to be reminded that God is all knowing and He is mindful of what we need and if we just listen we will get it.
Also we had zone training this weak and there was some really good training's by the missionary's in the zone we also met in the primary room instead of the gym like usually I guess we needed to be more childlike. hahha

well love you all -Elder roskelley

Feb 27th

Hello, Crazy week!    Somebody died up at the ski resort this week and it was  young mom from Elder Lewis's old ward in Farmington she has 5 kids the dad is okay but its really sad so please keep them in your prays its the Ming family. Whats crazy is we were up there with a member to teach a lesson and we got stopped because a helicopters came to life flight her. its super sad. This week was good very slow at times but good its been interesting how some things just don't work out no matter how hard we try or how much we pray for it, I think its just not the Lords will. The Ward has been fasting for missionary work this month a different family each day some days were not filled but still so many family's have fasted for the work its amazing and yesterday we had to nonmembers come to church that we had never taught before. then after church we where blessed to find 6 new investigators that are all pretty solid. we have an exchange with the Bayfield elders today and we are very excited for it.
Well my ponderize scripture is Doctrine and covenants 1: 21-23

21That faith also might increase in the earth;

22 That mine everlasting covenant might be established;

23 That the fulness of my gospel might be proclaimed by the weak and the simple unto the ends of the world, and before kings and rulers.
the reason I choose this passage of scripture is because this is why the restoration happened I love the first one that faith might also increase in the earth. in page I remember talking with a man who had some things to say and we shared scriptures with him and bore testimony but he wanted hard facts. he lacked faith. In the world now this is a problem there seems to be an immediate answer for everything and that's not how god works. I found that out through seeking my own answers.
love Elder Roskelley
ps the rocket scientist guy was also a pilot, firefighter, and a coroner

Feb 20th

Okay so this week was kind of a rough start.  But we adjusted and now things are going incredible. We had stake conference and because we live so close to the building our mission president  asked us to help do a role play with the bishops in a meeting before stake conference started.  Also in attendance at the meeting was the stake presidency and Elder Rhien an area seventy.   It was kinda scary hahah!! But it was good to I learned a lot. The rest of stake conference (large meeting of all congregations in area)  was also fantastic.

My ponderize scripture Doctrine and Covenants section 3 verse   20

And that the Lamanites might come to the knowledge of their fathers, and that they might know the promises of the Lord, and that they may believe the gospel and rely upon thmerits of Jesus Christ, and be glorified through faith in his name, and that through their repentance they might be saved. Amen.

yup I love that because we must learn to rely on Christ and we do that through repentance. and diligence in keeping the commandants for how can we follow Christ if we are not willing to obey the commandments of the father.

love elder roskelley

----- also we went teaching with that guy who helped put Apollo 13 into space and he helped get it back too!
